China Installed 3.3 GW of PV Generation Capacity in the First Half Of 2014

In H1, 2014, China has installed 3.3GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power capacity, representing a 100% increase compared to the same period of last year, TrendForce's (Taipei, Taiwan) EnergyTrend division reports.

China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) explains in an official release that the newly installed ground-mounted solar PV capacity was 2.3GW and the distributed PV generation (DG) was 1GW.

Gansu, Xinjiang and Qinghai provinces leading in terms of solar PV capacity

According to NEA’s data, the cumulative solar power capacities connected to the grid have reached around 11.3GW nationwide. Grid-connected solar power capacities in Gansu, Xinjiang and Qinghai are respectively 4.45GW, 3.67GW and 3.65GW, making them the three provinces with the most accumulative solar capacity. Also, Xinjiang has newly connected 900MW of solar power stations to the grid in 2014.

Jiangsu installed new DG PV capacity totaling 270MW

Regarding DG PV systems, provinces with the most accumulative grid-connected DG installations are Zhejiang (700MW), Jiangsu (530MW) and Guangdong (420MW). So far in this year, Jiangsu has newly connected 270MW of DG systems to the grid, leading the province on top of the DG installations.

With an additional 13GW target, the 3.3GW capacity implies that the progress of new PV installations will rapidly increase in the second half of 2014, Energy trend notes. Most industrial insiders express positive opinions to the 13GW target as the Chinese government is developing subsidy schemes and supportive programs for PV installations, especially for DG systems.
