Preliminary construction work has started on a multi-million dollar, 2-megawatt solar generation project south of Lakeview.
PacifiCorp spokesman Tom Gauntt said crews are clearing the property and installing fencing around a 21-acre site near the town’s sewer ponds. Called the Black Cap project, Gauntt said the site will have about 9,000 modules and is expected to be producing electricity by October for about 400 residential customers.
No cost figures have been disclosed, but the cost for developing other solar projects has been about $3 million per megawatt.
Toby Freeman, PacifCorp’s regional community manager, and others were at the site recently to meet a PBS crew filming a segment for “This American Land.”
