Konarka and Dri-Design Unveil Innovative Solar Metal Wall Panel System

Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in development and commercialization of Konarka Power Plastic(R), a lightweight, flexible organic solar film that converts light to electricity, and Dri-Design(R), manufacturer of the patented Dri-Design Wall Panel System, today announced Konarka's Power Plastic solar panels have been integrated into Dri-Design's metal rainscreen panels for building facade applications. The first commercial application of its kind, the integrated solar panels offer superior building performance, a recurring revenue stream for building owners, tax credits and renewable energy credits where applicable, along with aesthetically pleasing designs for architects.

"Incorporating Konarka's building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology with our highly-regarded rainscreen system adds innovation and value that is simply unsurpassed in the marketplace," commented Brad Zeeff, president at Dri-Design. "This is yet another example of Dri-Design's commitment to leading the industry in the development of affordable, innovative products."

Thin, light weight, transparent and flexible, Konarka's Power Plastic solar films are ideally suited for integration into various building materials, including glass, plastics, steel, composites and fabrics, offering creative architects and product designers superior, widespread latitude with several color and transparency options across a wide range of sizes enabled by Konarka's roll-to-roll continuous manufacturing process. The patented Dri-Design Wall Panel System is an affordable dry joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen system used throughout the country to clad commercial buildings of all sizes.
